We accept ICOM and ODM cards. Please present your card at the Museum Shop to receive a free admission ticket to the museum. Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to book entrance time slots online using an ICOM or ODM card.

Koldinghus is a five-minute walk from Kolding Railway Station, Regional Bus Station and City Bus Terminal.

Parking i Kolding City

There are many free parking spots within walking distance of Koldinghus (5 to 8 minutes’ walk). Parking in Kolding City.

Parking close to Koldinghus

There are a limited number of parking spots in and just outside the courtyard of the Stable Yard . To park here, you need to pay a fee. The parking area in and outside the Stable Yard courtyard is not owned by Koldinghus. 

Payment options 

• App: APCOA FLOW or EasyPark
• Card payment is not possible. The only way to pay the parking fee is via smartphone.
• You can always terminate your parking before it expires, so we recommend that you reserve a little longer than you think you will need.

Please note that for environmental reasons and to reduce noise issue, vehicles are not allowed to idle in the Stable Yard car park for longer than 1 minute.

Parking rules

Bags and luggage

For security reasons, you are only allowed to bring a small bag during your visit to the castle. The maximum size is D: 21 cm, W: 29 cm, H: 21 cm. 

Larger bags must be stored in the lockers by the ticket desk (deposit 10 kroner/1 Euro/1 token). 

Unfortunately, we do not have room to store suitcases. 

Please note that you must pick up your bag before closing time, as the entrance to the castle will be locked.

Pushchairs, buggies and prams

You are welcome to bring pushchairs/buggies and prams inside the museum, but they must be kept under supervision, and you are not allowed to park them in the exhibition space.

Food and drink

Eating or drinking is not allowed at the museum, with the exception of bottled water. 

You are welcome to enjoy a packed lunch at the outdoor tables in the Castle Courtyard. 

You can buy food at our restaurant, Madkælderen.

Photography

Photography for personal use is allowed throughout the museum. However, only handheld equipment is allowed. Tripods or monopods are not allowed inside the museum unless you have prior permission.

Smoking

Smoking is not allowed inside the castle or in the Castle Courtyard. This includes e-cigarettes.

The castle

Koldinghus is an ancient royal castle dating back to the 13th century. Over the centuries, it has undergone expansions and renovations and now has many stairs and staggered levels. 

With assistance from the staff, all the floors of the castle are accessible to wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility, except for the Giants’ Tower and the Dungeon. The restaurant, Madkælderen, is accessible via a platform lift.

Companion card

Visitors with a companion card from Disabled People’s Organisation Denmark can bring a carer/companion free of charge. You will need to present the companion card when you arrive. You can book a free companion ticket online or request one from the ticket desk when you arrive.

Disabled parking

Inside the courtyard of the Stable Yard, about 100 m from the entrance to Koldinghus, there are four disabled parking spots. Please note that you will need to pay to use these spots. See how under ‘Parking’.

Visitors with limited mobility may be dropped off and picked up at the castle gate. For parking, we refer you to the car park at the Stable Yard. 

You will be able to drive all the way up to the castle gate to drop off a visitor before taking the car to the Stable Yard car park.

Weelchair users and visitors with limited mobility

If you are a wheelchair user or have limited mobility, we ask that you (or your companion) either come to the ticket desk or phone us, so that we can open the gate and show you the way. 

When you buy a ticket, you will receive a visitors’ guide and advice about the best way to get around the castle. You will also receive a business card with the telephone number for our staff, so that you can phone us if you require assistance. 

Please note that, unfortunately, wheelchair users will not be able to access the tower rooms or reach the top of the Giants’ Tower, as there is no lift to these sections of the castle.

Platform lift and conventional lift

There is a lift at Koldinghus. The lift door is 79 cm wide. The lift does not go into the Giants’ Tower or into the Dungeon. For access to our restaurant, Madkælderen, there is a platform lift that is operated by the staff of Madkælderen.

Canes and crutches

You are welcome to bring canes and crutches, provided they have rubber tips, so that they do not damage the wooden floors.

Seats and portable stools

Around Koldinghus, there are seats where you can pause and rest. There are also racks with lightweight portable stools that you can carry with you during your visit to take a rest anytime you like.

Accessible toilets

There is a toilet with disability access in the basement next to the lift. For more information, you are welcome to contact our staff.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs

Guide dogs and assistance dogs accompanying their owner are allowed throughout the palace. To qualify, the dog must be a trained assistance dog with a vest or other accessory clearly marked ‘Assistance dog’ or similar. The dog must be kept on a leash throughout your visit.

The Sunflower lanyard

If you have a hidden disability or condition, you can pick up a free Sunflower lanyard and a plastic sleeve for a personal card when you visit Koldinghus. Both are available from our Castle Shop and ticket desk.   

The Sunflower lanyard is a discreet sign that the wearer might need a little extra time and understanding or a helping hand. As part of the Sunflower programme, our frontline staff have the awareness and training to provide the conditions for a safe and enjoyable visit.
