Plan your visit to Rosenborg Castle
Here you can find practical information related to your visit
Admission ticket with time slot
Because Rosenborg Castle is a relatively small castle and to protect our many historical objects, we can only let a limited number of visitors into the castle at a time. For this reason, admission tickets are always sold with time slots that are allotted every ten minutes.
During the peak season, all our time slots sell out, so we always recommend that you buy a ticket before your ticket to avoid disappointment and to secure the time slot that suits you best.
When you buy your ticket in advance, you can go straight to the castle entrance without needing to queue for the ticket desk.

Practical information
Bags and luggage
For security reasons, we only allow very small handbags inside the castle. Bags must be worn in front.
Larger bags and luggage are not allowed in the castle or in the Treasury.
Maximum dimensions of bags allowed inside the castle: W 15 cm x L 23 cm x H 15 cm. Larger bags must be stored in the cloakroom lockers during your visit. Unfortunately, we do not have room to store suitcases or large luggage in the cloakroom.
Please note that you will not be able to retrieve items from the lockers after closing, as the entrance to the castle area will be locked.
Pushchairs, buggies and prams
Pushchairs/buggies and prams are not allowed inside the museum but can be left at the entrance.
For security reasons, carry cots and sleep carriers are not allowed inside the castle – we recommend using a carrying sling during your visit to the castle and in the Treasury.
Food and drink
You are not allowed to bring food and drink of any sort into the castle or the Treasury. You will be able to eat a packed lunch at the picnic tables in the outside lunch area close to the Castle Shop.
Photography
Visitors are only allowed to take photographs in the castle or in the Treasury using handheld equipment. Tripods or monopods are not allowed inside the castle.
Smoking
Smoking is not allowed in the castle or on the castle grounds. This includes e-cigarettes.
Accessibility
The castle
Rosenborg Castle is a 400-year-old Renaissance castle with many stairs and narrow doorways. This means that the physical accessibility has some limitations.
Unfortunately, the castle does not have a lift.
Companion card
Visitors with a companion card from Disabled People’s Organisation Denmark can bring a carer/companion free of charge. You will need to present the companion card when you arrive. You can book a free companion ticket online or request one from the ticket desk when you arrive.
Please note that the companion must have the same entrance time slot as the visitor.
We recommend that you book tickets online, as there may be a long wait for admission tickets during busy periods. You can add a companion ticket when you choose tickets in the last stage of the ticket flow.

Disabled parking
Unfortunately, there is no parking (general or disabled) in the castle area or in the street outside the castle gate.
No lift and many stairs
The castle has multiple levels, and the only access is via stairs, as the castle has no lift.
Wheelchair users will only be able to visit the ground level and the Treasury and only with assistance from a companion. There are steps leading to both levels, so your companion will need to assist you up and down the steps.
It is possible to bring a walking frame on all levels of the castle but only if you are able to carry it up and down the stairs yourself.
Please not that the entrance to castle is 96 cm wide, and the entrance to the basement is 130 cm wide.
Seats and portable stools
In Christian V’s Hall on the ground level and in the Knights’ Hall on the top floor, there are seats where you can take a rest.
Accessible toilets
There is a toilet with disability access in the castle area.
Guide dogs and assistance dogs
Guide dogs and assistance dogs accompanying their owner are allowed throughout the palace. To qualify, the dog must be a trained assistance dog with a vest or other accessory clearly marked ‘Assistance dog’ or similar. The dog must be kept on a leash throughout your visit.
The Sunflower lanyard
If you have a hidden disability or condition, you can pick up a free Sunflower lanyard and a plastic sleeve for a personal card when you visit Koldinghus. Both are available from our Castle Shop and ticket desk.
The Sunflower lanyard is a discreet sign that the wearer might need a little extra time and understanding or a helping hand. As part of the Sunflower programme, our frontline staff have the awareness and training to provide the conditions for a safe and enjoyable visit.
