Private guided tour

Woven Masterpieces

See some of Denmark’s most significant tapestries – works that have been interwoven with the history of power and people over a span of more than 550 years.

Discover the rich history of tapestry weaving across centuries

We begin with an introduction to the laborious process of tapestry weaving, which helps give the pieces their unique soul.

We are going on an exciting tour of the Koldinghus exhibition Woven Masterpieces, which presents the history of tapestry weaving from today’s experimental artists and back over the centuries.

We will encounter powerful political textile statements from the 20th century, abstract works from the postwar era and pieces from the early 21st century when a formerly exclusive art form became more widely accessible. The tour concludes among the oldest tapestries in the exhibition, dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries – impressive works created to express royal power and splendour.
